Small Vices
by Robert B. Parker

A Spenser novel in which he gets shot 3 times, almost dies, and has to spend months of hard work to rehabilitate himself with the help of his girlfriend Susan and his friend Hawk. At the end he and Susan assess the case realistically: two life-long criminals get freed, an accidental killer goes to jail, and his father who hired killers to protect him is convicted of murder. The story is told by Spenser. It is enjoyable.
