The Annihilators
by Donald Hamilton

The 20th novel told by assassin, Matt Helm. It is logically a sequel to the 6th Matt Helm novel The Ambushers. His most recent girlfriend is kidnapped and the ransom is that he must assassinate the president of Costa Verde. The kidnappers are the family of the general he worked with in #6. They kill his girlfriend when he informs them that he does not have permission to kill the president. By a complicated plot he ends up getting revenge against them.

This is longer than the others I have read in this series. It took twice as long to read, but it is perhaps the best one so far, except that there are too many twists in the plot. It stresses the point that the non-violent, humanitarian types can be dangerous in tight situations because of their idealism.

Year Read: 2005
