Assassins Have Starry Eyes
by Donald Hamilton

A suspense novel told by a mathematician who works on nuclear weapons for the US government. He survives several attempts to kill him by members of an underground group who are trying to save the world from nuclear holocaust. Like Matt Helm this character is cynical and set in his ways and obsessed with women’s clothes.
