A collection of seminal essays about ethnic groups and slavery. The best ones
are: “Are Jews Generic?” which describes similarities among middleman minorities
such as Chinese, Lebanese, Jews, and Koreans, “The Real History of Slavery” which
explains that it was everywhere until the West abolished it. “Germans and History”
which makes the point that nothing in the history of Germans before Hitler would
have made the Holocaust predictable. “Black Education: Achievements, Myths and
Tragedies” which recites past educational success stories for Black Americans versus
present wide-scale failure.
