Body Farm
by Patricia Cornwell

The 5th crime novel told by Kay Scarpetta who is chief medical examiner for the state of Virginia and a lawyer who is called in by the FBI to assist in cases involving serial murderers. The title refers to a research project at the University of Tennessee where they study the decomposition of corpses. Much of the action takes place in western North Carolina where a little girl is murdered in a way similar to the way a known serial killer operates. A subplot involves Scarpetta’s niece who is a programmer for the FBI and is framed by her lesbian lover who is working for the serial killer. Lots of murder, good detective work by Scarpetta, and surprises. Well done. Scarpetta is a slut who is having an affair with a married FBI agent.
