The Clock Winder
by Anne Tyler

One of Anne Tyler's best stories. It features a free-spirited girl who becomes a handyman for a widow living in a big house in Baltimore who is the mother of six dysfunctional children who have all grown and left the house, but who she dominates anyway through her emotionalism and manipulation. The narrator would have to be God or someone similar who is omniscient.

Year Read: 1999
