A novel told by a former assassin, Matt Helm, who is forced to reactivate his killing skills by a jealous female assassin he stood up 15 years ago when he quit the business, married a nice girl, and settled down to a respectable life as a writer of western novels. The title refers to a scientist who is the target of the assassins and also to the end of Matt Helm’s life as a respectable citizen. Well written. Hard boiled.
