The Door to December
by Dean Koontz

A horror novel told by God about a girl who is tortured by scientists, including her father who kidnapped her from her mother, for 6 years to release her psychic powers. The title refers to a phrase the scientists told the girl to think about while she was in a sensory deprivation tank. The girl’s mother, an LAPD detective, and a bodyguard hired by the mother try to protect the girl from the scientists, the LAPD, and the FBI. A phony libertarian organization is used to launder money to finance the scientists’ torture of the girl. Real libertarians are portrayed favorably. Lots of murder, telekinesis, and surprises. Well done.

Year Read: 2005
