The Free Man
by Conrad Rickter

A simple story about a Palatine immigrant to colonial Pennsylvania who becomes an indentures servant, runs away to the Blue Mountains, returns with enough money to pay off his indenture, is thrown in jail, rescued by patriots from the Blue Mountains, marries the girl who treated him as her slave, and becomes a distinguished Revolutionary War soldier and citizen.

He is a fool from beginning to end. He believes anything that anyone tells him.
