A Gang of Pecksniffs
by H. L. Mencken

Mencken's writings on journalism. His principle ideas are: editorial pages ought to be abolished, news reporting cannot and ought not be value free, a newspaper must report stories with drama and appeal to the emotions of the masses, reporting government press releases is reporting government propaganda and should not be done without apologies for the dubious reliability of the source, journalists should regulate themselves in order to raise the standard of quality in their profession.
