I, the Jury
by Mickey Spillane

The first Mike Hammer mystery, and supposedly one of the best. Hammer, for my money, is the main villain in this story. He is an ignorant, obnoxious thug. He is a stupid version of a Randian hero: quick to judge, cock-sure of himself, stubborn, and usually wrong. He thinks he is a man of principle dealing honestly with reality, but he is actually a man acting on old-fashioned biases who doesn’t have the intellectual capacity or the imagination to check his premises. His moral code is that of a Mafia goon.
