Martian Knightlife
by James P. Hogan

Two related stories featuring a new hero nicknamed Knight, who travels around the solar system righting wrongs, saving victims, and relieving bad guys of ill-gotten gains. He is a combination of Repairman Jack (righteous, libertarian, independent free-lance operator) and James Bond (sophisticated, handsome, dashing). The stories are set on Mars, which has an anarcho-capitalist social order. The first story is great. The second is a sequel and is great until the last five pages where it relies on incredible luck to save the day.

Year Read: 2002
