A mystery novel told by Travis McGee about him going to NYC to check on the well being of the sister of his Korean War buddy. The sister’s fiancée had been mugged and killed. McGee noses around to see if the murder might be part of a bigger criminal conspiracy. He is a smart ass with a cynical, know-it-all attitude, who sizes people up right away and is lusted after by every woman he meets.
