Over on the Dry Side
by Louis LíAmour

A western novel told by God and a 16-year-old boy named Doby Kernohan. The title is almost irrelevant to the story. Owen Chantry comes to his brotherís ranch in Colorado in 1866 and finds two squatters living there and learns his brother Clive was murdered. He tells the squatters to stay. A gang of thieves harasses them hoping to find the treasure that Clive is alleged to have brought back from Mexico. Presumably Owen is related to Borden Chantry, but Borden is not mentioned. It is a good story.
