The Pump House Gang

A collection of vivid descriptions of various American and British lifestyles. Wolfe is particularly good at relating the slang used by each subculture and showing the view of the world, in terms of status, as seen by each.

Some of the articles are very funny. In others, I wish he were more critical of his subject instead of being merely descriptive. Most of the groups he writes about are so idiotic that to describe them is to ridicule them.
