The Shadow Riders
by Louis L’Amour

A good western told by God. Dal and Mac Traven return from the War of Northern Aggression and find brother Neil, their sisters, and other women have been kidnapped by a gang of 30 men. The brothers and an uncle follow the gang to the Gulf of Mexico. The title is not particularly relevant. L’Amour does a good job of explaining the thought process that the main characters go through in deciding what to do. He explains the morality of the alternatives at several points.
